The Juniper Bistro has one of the best views in Banff. The restaurant is located inside The Juniper Hotel at 1 Juniper Way, Banff, Alberta. They have a wonderful outdoor patio and large windows looking over the Bow Valley and the Canadian Rockies. They are very celiac aware. I went to dinner with my family and the food and service were wonderful
My confidence that the restaurant was celiac aware began with my telephone call to make the reservation. The gentleman I spoke with understood my concerns immediately and his knowledge of a celiac's dining needs put me at ease. Again at the table, our waitress was well versed regarding celiac disease and the menu is very clear about what you can and can't eat. Then, when my order was read out in the partially open kitchen we heard our table number read out aloud to the rest of the staff, "Celiac on table one!" as the order went down the line.
The food was delicious! Every dish we ordered was gluten-free so that I could taste each one. I know not everyone likes to share food, but we do. We started with the Charcuteries & Cheeses which was perfect for three people. The meat came from a deli in Canmore called Valbella. Canmore is the town next to Banff. Very tasty. I enjoyed the gluten-free bread and the polenta crisps were great. Does anyone else have trouble saying "Charcuterie"? I know it is sad! ^_^ I actually looked it up on line so that I would say it correctly. If you are unsure of the prononciation too here is the link . Doesn't that dish look fantastic!! I loved all the food on it.
For my main, I had the Beet dish which consisted of roasted beets, brussel sprouts, yams, candied pecans and goats cheese mousse. I love beets and this was so good. Don't let the photo fool you! This was a massive plate, so plenty of food to satisfy my appetite. I really enjoyed the flavour combinations.
My son ordered the Beet Gnocchi. It was made with gluten-free gnocchi from the Canmore Pasta Company. I love how the Juniper Bistro tries to use local and Canadian ingredients as much as possible. This dish was very nice. I really liked the sage brown butter.
My husband had the Halibut steak poached in a saffron and caper sauce. Perfectly cooked fish.
What is a meal without dessert?! Usually the only gluten-free dessert is fruit or sorbet but not here. Only one of the desserts was not gluten-free. We tried two of the gluten-free ones.
The Dark chocolate tart was too intense for my tastes. If you love dark chocolate I think this would be the dessert for you.I enjoyed the honeycomb toffee.
Loved the Creme brulee. It came on a wooden board so looked cool. Nice crunch when I hit it with my spoon and lovely creamy pudding inside. I would order this again.
They have Dinner, Brunch and Patio Graze menus. I'm really looking forward to trying a Sunday brunch one day. They are open longer for brunch on Sundays. This restaurant is pricey but worth it. If you are in Banff and need to eat gluten-free I recommend checking out this restaurant. Here is their website: https://thejuniper.com/dining/
