Gluten-free food haul from Amaranth Market in Calgary Alberta

I was like a kid in a candy store! I've only recently discovered Amaranth Whole Foods Market on 7 Arbour Lake Drive NW Calgary.

Here is my haul! I was so excited to see Quesava Kitchen Veggie Poppers and Schar crackers!!! Schar crackers are a favorite of mine. They taste very close to regular saltines and are great in tomato soup! You can see my review of the Veggie Poppers here They were very tasty and on my must buy again list. Do you see those soba buckwheat noodles in the middle there? Gluten-free!!!! I'd almost given up on finding soba noodles that didn't have wheat flour in them. It is well disguised but those Mac N' Cheese Beanitos are open. Who can resist chips? I liked them, they were not overly cheesy and had a nice crunch. I'm already a big fan of Nutrimax Natural Foods Chicken soup base so when I saw the onion and the tomato flavours I just had to buy them. I'm looking forward to trying them out.

Pamela's Gluten-free Fig cookies

I loved Fig Newtons before my celiac diagnosis and these Pamela's Figgies & Jammies cookies are very similar. The strawberry and fig flavour is great. They are chewy and not overly sweet. I prefer them to energy bars.

I just kept walking around the aisles. Not all but quite a majority of the products you see on those shelves are gluten-free! The choice is almost overwhelming. According to their website, "all items identified as certified gluten-free are indicated with a red dot for easy shopping". You can see the red dots on the price stickers in the photo above. I wish I lived closer. This store is now on my must visit list next time I'm in Calgary. They have three locations in Calgary, check out their website at http://amaranthfoods.ca/ If you sign up for their rewards program, along with other benefits, Celiac customers can request a printout of all their gluten-free purchases for tax season.

Do you have a favourite gluten-free store? Where do you buy Quesava or Schar products in Calgary or surrounding area?
