gluten-free barbecued pork chop with a baked potato and carrots on a plate

This is an old family recipe. My Grandmother made it and my Mom made it too. We had it as part of our meal rotation. I love pork chops and especially barbecued ones. This is a simple and easy recipe.

You want to start by browning the chops in a tablespoon or two of oil. They don't need to be cooked all the way. The browning enhances the flavour.

mix the sauce, combine and bake in the oven. Great for busy days.

Then chop your onion and garlic finely. Mix all the remaining ingredients together in a small bowl or large measuring cup. Put the chops in a greased casserole/baking dish and pour the sauce over the chops. Cover the baking or casserole dish with a lid or tin foil and bake in a 350 Farenheit oven for 1 to 1 1/2 hours.

I usually check after an hour with a meat thermometer. Should be 145 Farenheit. I like to take the lid/cover off and broil the pork chops for 2 to 3 minutes just to brown the tops a little.

Homemade Gluten-Free Oven Barbecued Pork Chops

Ingredients
  • 4 to 6 pork chops
  • 2 Tablespoons oil for frying the chops
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced or 2 teaspoons of minced jar garlic
  • 2 Tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 Tablespoon gluten-free worcestershire sauce (I used French's)
  • 1 teaspoon each salt and pepper
  • dash of cayenne pepper - optional
Directions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 Farenheit.
  2. Brown the chops in a frying pan and put in a greased baking dish or casserole dish.
  3. Mix the rest of the ingredients in a bowl and pour over the chops.
  4. Cover with a lid or tin foil, and bake in the oven for about 1 to 1 1/2 hours.
  5. Serve with rice, mashed potatoes, fries or baked potatoes and a side salad.

Since you are using the oven you can pop in potatoes to bake. Just wash, pierce and wrap in foil and put in the oven along side the chops. Another way is to slice the potato and put a slice of onion between, add some butter and double wrap in foil to bake along side the pork chops.
