On this trip to Vancouver, I finally made it to the 100% gluten-free restaurant - Iki Japanese Bistro. The sushi is great! I also enjoyed the yam fries and the tempura.
This restaurant is a 100% dedicated gluten-free restaurant that has been certified gluten-free by the Gluten-Free Food Program (GFFP) since 2017. If you are interested in learning more about the gluten-free certification program here is a link to their website https://glutenfreefoodprogram.com.
I'm the only celiac in the family, but both myself and the non-celiacs really enjoyed the maki sushi. I liked the tempura and yam fries. The chef was fantastic. My only negatives would be that the decor of the restaurant is not to my taste, it is a bit too dark. I understand that they are recovering from the COVID restrictions, but the inside of the restaurant felt a little tired and unloved.
Food wise I wouldn't order the rice paper stick pork gyoza again ,as it was a little too greasy for my tastes. On a positive note, I highly recommend the sushi and tempura. The agedashi tofu was good. The tofu wasn't greasy and had a light crispy coating, and the sauce was very tasty, but I would have liked some grated daikon with it. I will be back for takeout in the future.
Iki Japanese Bistro is located at 2756 West Broadway Vancouver, BC. They don't have a website, but do have a facebook page that hasn't been updated recently. They do have an instagram account #iki_japanese_gluten_free . You can find their menu online by typing their name into your favourite search engine. Below are photos of their takeout menu.
As you can see on Iki Japanese Bistro's takeout menu, they are endorsed by the Canadian Celiac Association and were Canada's first gluten free dedicated Japanese restaurant. They are great with allergies. Just let them know ahead of time. I felt so comfortable eating their food.
Again, I recommend trying them out. Especially if you are a celiac.
