I found these bags a few years ago when I went on my first trip as a celiac and loved them.
So far, I have tried three types: JML toasta bags and Boska Holland toastabags in the photo above and one from Amazon Canada in the photo below.
They all were are great. They are reusable. I wipe the outside clean and store in a zip lock bag for the next use. I have used them at hotels for breakfast in the morning and to make a to-go sandwich. As the pictures on the packaging suggest they are also good for making toaster sandwiches. I like cheese and ham.
Do you guys trust the “gluten-free” toaster??? Perhaps I’m a paranoid celiac, but I do not. I appreciate the thought, but they are sometimes right next to the gluten toaster with crumbs galore. Once and a while they are kept in the kitchen area, but I still don’t use them. Therefore, toaster bags to the rescue!
I found my first ones at Nutter’s in Canmore, but they don’t seem to stock them anymore. The second set I think I found at Superstore in Calgary. I have not seen them recently, but hear from other celiacs that in Calgary you can get them at Superstore by the toasters, Walmart, Sobeys, Co-Op, No Frills, The Dollar Store, Dollarama, Canadian Tire and The Lakeview Bakery. Please let me know what brand you use and where you buy them.
For my last holiday I just couldn't find toaster bags. Finally I tried Amazon and choose the ones above. They were a good price and you got 20 of them. I used them for toast and in a shared kitchen I used them in the microwave to warm individual gluten-free baked goods and to make baked potatoes. They worked out great. You can see how they toasted a piece of gluten-free Schar rye bread in the photo above.
I saw that you can make your own using tin foil and parchment paper (not wax paper) or just parchment paper Click Here. As the store bought ones can be a bit price I was quite excited. I gave it a go with mixed results. I’m not sure how I feel about possible cross-contamination as the edges are just folded but would work in a pinch.
Have you used them? Any other brands? Do you make your own? What filling do you enjoy, if you are making toaster sandwiches? Comment below and let me know!
