I dropped by the Communitea Cafe the other day with my son for lunch. What a lovely place for a meal. It is a bright, clean and comfy cafe. If you are in Canmore and a Celiac looking for a place to have a meal then check out the Communitea Cafe. There are many gluten-free, dairy free and vegan options. It is more than just a tea shop, they serve breakfast and lunch and have quite an extensive menu consisting of salads, veggie bowls, sandwiches, wraps and baked goods.
Doesn't that look delicious!! Its the Mega Fresh Bowl with the Maple Tahini dressing I enjoyed the other day. As you can see in the photo, it was packed with lots of vegetables, quinoa and hummus. The dressing was awesome!! I'm definitely going to try to replicate it. The chickpeas in the dish were perfectly seasoned and I really liked the crunch of the pumpkin and sunflower seeds. This was my third visit. The first time I dropped by for coffee and the second time I had the Pad Thai with zucchini noodles which was tasty.
Here is the Yoga Bowl. My son choose the rice option. He said the flavours were great. He really enjoyed the sauce. This was his third time too! Previously he had the Pad Thai with rice noodles which he definitely recommends.
The food is fresh and healthy and as per their website they try to source as many local and organic ingredients as possible. They are open for breakfast from 8:00 to 11:30 and lunch from 11:30 to 5:00 Monday to Thursday and till 6:00 Friday to Sunday.
They have recently renovated and opened up the seating which is arranged in a variety of different areas. There is a long bench like table area, sofas and two and four person tables. Large windows let the sunshine flow in. They have a children's play area and a lovely kids menu. In the warm months they have some tables set up on the sidewalk area outside. There are two entrances. If you enter through the main entrance be aware that the menus are located right at the front just after you enter and line up. The specials are on the blackboard behind the counter. There is a side area to help yourself to water, condiments, and napkins. There is free wi-fi.
The beverages are up on the blackboard too. A huge variety of teas and coffees and there is a good choice of juices. It can be busy during peak hours and they don't take reservations. The service is friendly and quick considering how busy it can be. The kitchen is small, so do let them know you are a Celiac. As with all restaurants that aren't 100% gluten-free you will have to double check that ingredients haven't changed since this review and do what feels right for you.
There are live music nights usually on a Friday or Saturday night. Check out their website for what is going on.
Located on the corner of 10th street and 6th street (#117 1001 6th Avenue Canmore). You can even order online. Check out their menu on the website at https://www.thecommunitea.com/. I really like the bright relaxed atmosphere of the place. I look forward to trying out their breakfast menu. Let me know if you check it out!
