Just look at that wonderful gluten-free delicious chicken burger! That is what I had the pleasure of eating at Odell's Gluten-Free Bakery and Cafe!
This is a must go in Halifax, Nova Scotia for Celiacs. I nearly cried with joy when I saw the menu. Sorry about the photo, not my best collage! ^-^ But OMG just look at all the choices!!!! The menu is unbelievable! If you are anywhere near this place you must drop by. I only wish I had been in the area longer, so that I could have enjoyed their breakfasts too.
It was so hard to believe that I could literally order anything I wanted off this extensive 'normal' looking menu. I don't know about you, but I had not experienced this kind of complete gluten-free cafe before. It was just like any gluten cafe I remember from my pre-celiac diagnosis days.
The interior is fantastic. It is a large, modern, and tastefully decorated restaurant wwith a great bakery area at the front by the cashier. I tried the blueberry scones which were so scrumptious. There is a delicious bakery display case at the front filled with an assortment of delicious looking gluten-free baked goods.
They also had a refrigerated area with the most fantastic looking pies. Just look at them there tempting me! But, I was so full from our lunch and I didn't think they would travel well so I opted for an Eggroll Pocket to go. I was not disappointed as it reheated well and made for a nice lunch the next day.
You can also buy their own gluten-free flour mix, and baking mixes.
I could even have the dessert that was on display at the table!!!!! How fantastic is that.
Unless you are a celiac I don't think you can appreciate the joy that this gave me. Just look at that marvellous dessert! It looked so good that of course, I had to try it as who can resist a chocolate brownie with chocolate and caramel sauce, vanilla ice cream and whipped cream!!!! Very much like a dessert I remember that used to be sold at The White Spot. Oh my god it was delicious.
I had the chicken burger! So good!! There buns are chewy and don't fall apart and I challenge anyone to notice that the breading on the chicken breast was gluten-free. The condiments were very tasty and the fries were so yummy!!!!
My husband tried the gluten-free battered scallops! They were so light and crispy on the outside and perfect sweet scallops inside. A perfect appetizer!
My son opted for the Purely Vegetarian Sandwich. He let me try a bit and it too was very good. Their bread is so tasty and the texture is the best gluten-free bread I have eaten so far.
We also ordered a Classic Pizza to go!!! Couldn't resist trying a slice right away while it was piping hot! Ohh my, it was so very good! The toppings were tasty but the crust was beyond good. It really had that gluten type bite to the crust. It was actually on the chewy side. I need to go back and try all their pizzas which if you glance at that menu again will take me some time!
Do check out their website. I love that this place is 100% gluten-free and the gluen-free food on the menu is just like what you'd see on a regular gluten cafe menu. If you go and I highly recommend that you do, please let me know what you think and what you ordered?
