Update: July 22, 2022. Crystany's Brasserie closed it's doors at the end of May 2022. This is a big loss to the celiac community. They were a wonderful restaurant. All the best in their future endeavours! Even though I live way west in Alberta, I will miss your delicious food when I visit Nova Scotia.

I did it!!! Ever since seeing an article in the Celiac Association of Canada's newsletter about Crystany's Brasserie in Canning, Nova Scotia being the first 100% dedicated gluten-free restaurant to get their GFFP certification (Gluten Free Food Program) I have been dreaming of going there. But, I live in Alberta and Nova Scotia is about 4873 km (3028 miles) away!!! Well,I finally had my chance. I was in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Canning is about 105 kms about a 1 1/2 hour drive away, so off we went. I was not disappointed.

Here is the place! Isn't it lovely. Canning is a picturesque town. The drive here was very pleasant.

It was a lovely day, so we choose to sit on the patio! Loads of trees and a small creek give you a relaxing feeling sitting on this eclectically decorated outdoor space. I just loved the bright colours and what a view. Loads of greenery which is so calming.

The menu is very extensive. I wanted to try everything! It is still rare in Canada to find a 100% gluten-free restaurant and this is the only one I know of that has been certified by the Celiac Association of Canada as dedicated gluten-free. Check out the Association's website page regarding the process and what it actually entails. Here is another link to find out more about the program. I hope more gluten-free restaurants start to participate. I felt so safe ordering and eating here.

Loads of lovely appetizers to choose from! We went for the Eggplant Dip with chips. Ohh what a lovely creamy dip. I really enjoyed it. There was no bitter eggplant taste. I need to try and duplicate this.

Now we were here for lunch. Just look at that menu.

Decided to share the fish and chips. I just had to have fish and chips in Nova Scotia and wasn't sure if I'd be able to find another place with this gluten-free totally celiac safe option. My goodness the Haddock was so tasty. Very light and crispy gluten-free beer batter that went perfectly with their homemade tartar sauce. Loads of fries. The coleslaw was so good, tangy and crunchy.

Wish we could have stayed in Canning, so that we could have tried some items off the dinner menu. So many choices.

They also have a Kid's menu which is excellent for children with celiac disease. They can have a totally normal and safe restaurant experience.

Not knowing what my options were going to be for dinner, I decided to go for a take out order. I ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich to go. Just look at that lovely Odell gluten-free chewy bun, it didn't fall apart even after a few hours sitting in a cooler. Click here to check out my review of Odell's Gluten-Free Bakery and Cafe where Crystany's Brasserie get their buns. The pulled pork was delicious with just the right balance of seasonings.

The inside of the restaurant is very beautiful and comfortable.
